Historical Society of Olmsted Falls brings the past to life: Olmsted Dates and Data

OLMSTED FALLS, Ohio - Do the names Captain Aaron Olmsted, James Geer, Peter and Edward Kidney or Julia Carter Northrup ring a note of familiarity? How about Plum Creek Township, Lenox Township or Norris Falls?
The names above are related to Olmsted Falls and Olmsted Township.
Many residents were interested in the history of Olmsted Falls, Olmsted Township and saving the communities' treasures. Bill Eichenberg, Ann Marie Donegan and Jean Johnson initiated the Historical Society of Olmsted Falls [http://hs- of.weebly.com/] in 2006. Bill is the group's current president. The group, which includes several residents, meets the second Monday of the month at either the Olmsted Falls fire station or the Olmsted Falls Library.
Its programs vary from local history to events of historical interest. Members often bring life to the past, as seen in this week's photo of a youngster learning the game of hopscotch, which many at Falls Day in the Park never saw - or played - before until that afternoon. The group has collected many items that residents have donated and are stored at City Hall until the renovated space in the building is completed. It is also interested in letters, photos and treasured articles that residents may want to donate. New members, of course, are welcome.

For more information and an application for membership, contact Bill Eichenberg at 440-235-2889.
The society is a great way to learn more about Olmsted - as well as Julia Carter Northrup, who had a 100-acre estate in the Village of Olmsted Falls upon her death and was the granddaughter of Cleveland's first settler and Norris Falls, a former name of our community.
