The History Of Girl Scouts

Almost everyone has heard of the Girl Scouts or even tasted there branded cookies, but what do they stand for, and why are they there?

1912, Juliette Gordon Low
It all started in 1912, when local troops and councils formed in Northeast Ohio, including our very own Olmsted Falls - to make a fun and safe environment for girls. 1   But that still doesn't answer anything , how could it get so big? Well, you'll just have to take a little trip in history to Juliette Gordon Low, the woman that started it all. Back in 1912, woman were expected to stay at home to cook and clean for there kids and husbands. However, Juliette, had other dreams. Now, she wasn't completely against the system,  but there was still a part of her that wanted to explore. She was an artist wanting to know  more about the world and her surroundings then most woman did at the time. So being, well, an exception to the system. She wanted to make a place where other girls, that had the same dreams, feel at home. And though there were some problems, such as her deafness, and having a less than supportive husband, she pushed through. That's when she found herself in England, where she discovered that her friend Robert Baden-Powell started a movement called "scouting"; originally for boys.

 Girl Guide
That's when the Girl Guides where created. Thanks To Baden-Powell encouraging his sister, Agnes to start Girl Guides; Juliette also got involved.  As she created troops for the movement, she found a place where she belonged. Then she had an idea, to found The Girl Scouts of the USA in her home country. And as Girl Scouts grew and grew, she (was and) will always be remembered as the founder of our beloved girl scouts.

Cookies
But we're not done quite yet, COOKIES...they are the pride and joy of girl scouts. They're not just tasty treats, well at least not to the scouts. They help fund girls that need food and clothing. They bring communities together, and help make amazing things happen. Plus they're delicious, I mean talk about win-wins!  That's why every girl scout cookie season is truly priceless, and help keep Juliette's vision alive. Every box bought, is a memory that will live on forever, and a smile that will never go away.

Cookie season starts on January 1, 2022.
